World War 2
Iwo-Jima Campaign
1945
United
States Marines waged a protracted and vicious 36-day battle
against entrenched Japanese forces in order to capture the
volcanic Island of Iwo-Jima. Iwo-Jima was a Japanese Army
base that held two strategic airfields, which would prove
vital for US operations against Japan in the Pacific Theater
of World War 2.
